CAMPAIGN WITHOUT PLASTIC BAG DAY
The campaign was launched on July 6, 2009 with the primary objective being to transform Penang as the Green State and raise the awareness of Penangians on the importance of safeguarding the environment.
- Day Without Plastic Bag was originally held on Monday but based on positive feedback received it was added to three days ie Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 January 2010.
- Customers who require a plastic bag will be charged RM0.20 which is channeled to the Anti-Poverty Partners (RAK) fund.
- Participation in this program is compulsory to all major hypermarkets, supermarkets and mini markets as it has become a compulsory requirement in the renewal of business licenses.
- Small retailers are also obliged but only limited to Mondays only.

The monthly average shows that more than 20,000 plastic bags have been reduced for every large supermarket and supermarket since it was launched
